Choosing a Safe

Safes are tested by the insurance industry and
given a rating to reflect their ability to protect cash.
This is called the Overnight Cash Rating.

If you require to keep jewellery then the Cash Rating
Can be multiplied by ten
ie a safe with a Cash rating of £10,000 would be OK
for £100,000 worth of jewellery.

However it is advised that you check with your
Insurance Company prior to purchasing a safe.

So to choose a safe you first need to know the maximum
amount of cash or jewellery that you will be keeping in the
safe. This will decide the quality of safe you require.

Next you will need to decide how large the safe needs to be.
Good quality safes have very thick walls and doors, so you
will need to consider both external and internal sizes when
choosing the size.

Also a quality safe is very heavy, so you will need to check
if the floor will support the safe. The ideal location is on a
concrete ground floor.

Now all you need to consider is the type of locking you require
and any extras such as shelves, depositing systems etc.
These will be dictated by operational use and personal
preference.
